Re: Freedom City

*The Ion blasts rise towards the Arild, but one stops short as it hits one of the Arild's medium assault concussion missiles. The missile's electronics are fried, but it continues to rocket down towards the MRPSDP unguided. The other Ion blast hits aft of the starboard point defense battery, and shorts out lighting and the air freshers in the area but does not damage the main power lines, so the battery is still fully operational, if a bit less comfortable for the gunners. Both batteries easily destroy the 14 incoming missiles from the platform below.

The Arild's other missile homes in on one of the Ion cannons as it enters the lower atmosphere. The Freyr's two missiles home in on the second Ion cannon. The Arild continues to fire it's turbolasers at the platforms many missile tubes, while the Freyr's turbolasers target the remaining MALs. Engineering teams have repaired or patched all the most important power relays aboard the Arild and have effected a patch for the shield generator, until they can finish making the jerry rigged spare parts, it needs. White and Bronze squadrons maintain their position.

RG 1 pulls up in a tight starboard spiral and push their throttles full forward, putting laser energy into their engines for extra speed. RG 2 executes the same maneuver simultaneously, causing many of the missiles to form a loose weaving cone as they pursue their quarry. Then all fighters break out from the spiral, in a star burst pattern with each fighter on a different vector, as one of the Arild's turbolaser volleys flashes into the missile stream on it's way to the MRPSDP, several shots are dissipated while most continue on unhindered.

SG 1 passes over the MRPSDP and banks left sharply, while switching to lasers; SG 2 simultaneously matches the maneuver. SG 1 & 2 fly two halves of a figure 8, as they come around and face each other. The leading shield trio in each group targets the ion cannon to their respective port side, while the second trio targets their respective starboard Ion cannon.*

  Code:
RSqd: 11 fighters in star burst formation over the city. One fighter with shields at 60%.
SSqd: by trio 'v'

Re: Freedom City

*The weapons platform explodes as the combined fire power punches through it's armor and detonates internal missile magazines.

Meanwhile, the MALs use the time it takes for the starfighters to maneuver to fire another similar volley of missiles.*

Re: Freedom City

*Red squadron continues its ascent into low orbit, flying by pairs in a scissors formation. The odd man pilot out flies a wide corkscrew, attempting to keep the less agile missiles from hitting her while she shifts her shields full aft. Several missiles come close to the fighters, and a few hit, but none of the fighters are downed.

Silver squadron reforms in 2 groups, after passing through the fire ball that had been the MRPSDP and losing three pilots to shrapnel, while the rest of the fighters lost shield strength to the same. SG1 takes a few snapshots at the MAL as the race towards them form the center of the city. SG2 mirrors SG1's maneuver and continues out past the edge of the city crossing trails as they go to confuse the incoming missiles. SG1 begins crossing trails as they pass over the MALs, but unfortunately it's not soon enough for one of the pilots.

The Arild begins to focus it's turbo lasers on enemy vehicles, starting with the MALs still firing at it's fighters. The Concussion missiles it fired earlier, shifted towards some of the Canderous Tanks nestled between several tall buildings. The missiles, coming from almost directly above would have no trouble hitting the tanks on the ground. Commander Savas reviews his position and the enemy troops strengths, trying to find a way to capture the city with minimal collateral damage.

The Freyr's guns continue to pound the MALs, hoping to eliminate them before they caused to much trouble for the withdrawing fighters. It's missiles also shift towards a group of the Canderous tanks, their targeting computers working together to prevent the m from striking the same target.

White and Bronze squadrons maintain their positions, escorting their respective SDs.*

  Code:
RSqd: 11 fighters crossing trails as they withdraw from the hot zone and approach the SDs in orbit. Three fighters with shields at 20-45%.
SSqd: by group
--SG1: 4 fighters flying scissors to the east of the city.
--SG2: 4 fighters flying scissors to the west of the city.
WSqd: 12 fighters escorting the Arild.
BSqd: 12 fighters escorting the Freyr.
Arild: Shields at 86%, Hull at 100%, all weapons functional.
--Turbolasers: 12 guns targeting the MALs.
--Missiles: 2 missiles target one group of canderous tanks each. 2 missiles launching, single launch.
Freyr: Shields at 100%, Hull at 100%, all weapons functional.
--Turbolasers: 12 guns targeting the MAL's.
--Missiles: 2 missiles targeting one group of canderous tanks each. 2 missiles launching, single launch.

Re: Freedom City

*The shots hastily fired by the withdrawing fighters were not especially accurate and only deal minor damage where the cannon fire actually hits the targets. The fire from the capital ships is much more effective. The capital ship grade cannons and missiles destroy their targets on impact.

In response the Canderous tanks begin rotating positions with each other, moving through the city streets to make targeting them as hard as possible. Once they reach their destination they switch positions again so they can stayon the move. Half the MALs pack up and move around the city, staying on the move as well.*

Re: Freedom City

*Red and Silver Squadrons, well what's left of them, return to the Arild. All fighters are refueled, repaired as needed, and rearmed. The Pilots are debriefed, and then are fed a quick meal and then put on standby.

The Arild continues to fire turbolasers at the MALs, the gunners begin to lead their targets increasing accuracy slightly. It's missiles continue to rain down on the Canderous Tanks, knowing that they'd prove a very difficult obstacle to the infantry if left alone. Comm Savas, having received an answer from Kaine, begins planning the final strokes of his assault strategy.

The Freyr turns it's attention to power plants across the city, targeting the three largest with salvos from two twin, light turbolaser cannon turrets each. The concussion missiles continue to target the heavy tanks in the city. White and Bronze squadrons maintain current velocity.*

Re: Freedom City

*Another five MALs are destroyed by enemy turbolaser fire, others are saved by the tactic of switching locations with their comrades. The Canderous Tanks have more luck, the incoming missiles are slower than the cannon fire and are easily detected by sight alone. The tanks receive early warning of incoming missiles and make last minute turns, forcing the missiles to change course and slam into buildings. They are not all so lucky though, one is unable to reach turn a turn in the road before the missile arrives to destroy it. Another suffers damage to its repulsors from a missile that successfully navigated around a building.

The half of the MALs not on the move turn their turrets towards the sky and reload. Besides that nothing much can be done until the fighters come back into range or the enemy begins its land invasion.*

Re: Freedom City

*Comm Savas orders the use of the neutron warheads, and the missile launch crews make the switch accordingly. They had smaller blast radii than conventional nukes, but had a much higher neutron output. What this effectively does is create very large radiation radii, short term. For the next 1/2-2 years the whole city was going to be radio active. However, depending on several uncontrollable factors, projections showed that the city could be re-inhabited as soon as 1 year 9 months with out any noticeable traces of radiation, anywhere in the city.

Comm Savas based his decision on the fact that Freedom city was strategically unimportant, and that it would be far easier to subdue the planet with a good portion of it's garrison wiped out. Also, it wouldn't be too difficult to clean up if the Mando'ade were able to hold the planet, though Comm Savas couldn't see the current assault force retaining enough troops to effectively defend the planet upon capturing it. This way all the vode could focus on pacifying just one Major city instead of two. Comm Savas just hoped he was making the right decision, either way even if he claimed full responsibility for the order, and thereby the use of the nukes, it could reflect badly on his vode if not handled right.

Oh well, of one thing Comm Savas was sure, less vode under his command would die today this way. Some might think it cowardly of him, but he valued the lives of his brothers, much more than his rank, or even their respect. Critics would argue and debate the necessity of his actions, but most of them would argue from the comfort of home, not the chaos of the battle field.

The Freyr continues to use it's turbolasers on various power plants throughout the city, hoping to cause wide spread blackouts and scattered electrical fires. The dual-turbolaser turrets continue to fire in fire-linked pairs, at the targets given to them. White and Bronze squadron continue to fly escort for the SD's. Mechanics aboard the Arild have signed off that eight of Red squadrons fighters are fit for combat, and are still working on the other three fighters. Silver squadron has three fighters fit for combat, the rest are also being repaired by the Arilds mechanics.*

  Code:
RSqd: 11 fighters on standby, effecting repairs aboard the Arild.
SSqd: 8 fighters on standby, effecting repairs aboard the Arild.
WSqd: 12 fighters escorting the Arild.
BSqd: 12 fighters escorting the Freyr.
Arild: Shields at 93%, Hull at 100%, all weapons functional.
--Turbolasers: 12 guns targeting the MALs.
--Missiles: 2 missiles targeting one group of canderous tanks each. 2 Neutron missiles loading.
Freyr: Shields at 100%, Hull at 100%, all weapons functional.
--Turbolasers: 12 guns targeting several power plants across the city.
--Missiles: 2 missiles targeting one group of canderous tanks each. 2 Neutron missiles loading.

*Power grids go down in the city as turbolaser fire destroys a few power planets. Back up generators kick in however, but they only barely bring power to the various bunkers and shelters housing civilians. With no way of countering the Star Destroyers the city remains dark.

Squads of stormtroopers are sent to search for any civilians that might have fallen behind or have yet to reach shelter.*

Re: Freedom City

*The Arild and Freyr cease their bombardment of the city with turbolasers. The Arild launches one 1MT Neutron missile, which is programmed to detonate 1 km above the city. This should bring Freedom city to it's knees, and if it doesn't 3 more missiles just like it, standby in their missile tubes awaiting launch.

The crew on board both SD's realize that Freedom city is about to be leveled, and while they are not happy that so many innocents will be slaughtered, however they do not have much grief to spare. Death is nothing new to them, nor is the slaughter of innocents, they will live a little longer, so they are content in the knowledge that they have done their jobs, and that they will one day see the brothers they lost today, in Manda.*

Re: Freedom City

*Freedom City dies as the Neutron missile detonates above the city. Eight thousand Stormtroopers burn to ash and the crews of the defending vehicles die screaming from the radiation. Hundreds of thousands of civilians die either from not reaching safety or from inadequate shelter. Barely half of the city's population survives, but are stuck in their bunkers until they can be rescued.*

Re: Freedom City

*Both Gladiator-class Star Destroyers shift course, and begin flying towards the city Hpaq. Both descend from low orbit to the atmosphere proper, while en-route. They would be arriving at Hpaq's southern edge in about an hour. The mechanics are still working to get the last few of the Arild's remaining fighters combat worthy again. Comm Savas orders that the remaining Neutron missiles be unloaded, as there would be vod on the ground by the time they arrived at Hpaq. Instead he ordered the missile crews to witch to AP cluster missiles.

Comm Savas put Razor Wing and Mongworst Battalions on low alert, allowing the troops to relax a bit on the hour long trip while keeping them ready to go at a moments notice. Things had not gone as Comm Savas had hoped they would, but then war never followed anyone's plans. Not even Darth Sidious had been able to predict every move made during the clone wars.*
