*The advance was steady, the troopers moved in a leap-frog fashion. One squad would move up, while one, two, or even three if they could spare it would watch for hostiles. That's not to say it wasn't rough. Rockets from foxholes were hitting them, and barbarian cries mingled with the cries of burned or wounded men.*
Foxtrot 813! You're next!
*That was Jarypt. He moved up to the edge of a building and peeked around it. Another squad was already moving up through the snow, they were almost impossible to see through the snow.*
*The rocket was completely impossible to see. It hit right in the center of the squad, and they briefly disappeared in a plume of fire. They were in a staggered formation, but the majority of the squad was dead.*
Fire! FIRE!
*The watching squads obliged, putting shots down range, through the snow toward where the smoke trail of the rocket originated. There was a pause in the combat as everyone stopped to look for more combatants.*
*A second rocket whistled in from the left and exploded against the ground, shrapnel flying into the trooper at the back of the squad. Defending forces arose from the snow, close to the NOE troopers already. Too close.*
*People shouted out their death throes and precautions of incoming fire, but this fight was lost to the NOE. They could win the war, easy. But this battle was lost to them. They fell left and right and left again.*
*Jarypt picked off two, his lasers slicing through their hearts and heads and throats. He heard a bloodthirsty cry behind him, and spun to see a barbarian charging him with a vibroblade.*
*Before the barbarian could complete his swing, Jarypt dropped his rifle, drew his saber and made two cuts. One to the sword, the other to the opponent. The barbarian fell into two pieces.*
*The rest of the barbarians, seeing the crimson saber, and the very surprising enemy before them, stopped. Momentarily. They charged again, all at once and all sense of honorable combat from them.*
*Minutes later, Jarypt left pieces of barbarians in the snow behind him and resumed his now solo march toward the main garrison.*
