Re: Main Halls

*Aerandir and the other Jedi worked as quickly as they could, deflecting bolt after bolt fired by the wall of stormtroopers, slowly closing in to make this a close quarters fight. It was difficult to get in close with several blasters fired and sabers waving. But once they were there, they'd be able to cut through the swarms like mere paper so that Aerandir could get through and chase Maul down.

But in his periphery senses, Aerandir felt the appearance of someone else. Ksandra... she had entered through the hole in the wall, so she had a clear path to Maul behind these troopers. Thank God... but that didn't cause Aerandir to slow down. No, in fact, his efforts were only strengthened, until at last the two forces collided like a wave upon a cliff. Aerandir and the Jedi tore through the troopers, cutting them down one by one, taking no injury apart from a stray blaster bolt that hit one Jedi in the leg, downing him.

Once Aerandir broke through, he darted through the halls, the Jedi behind him moving to defend the opening in the wall. Aerandir homed in on Maul, who was in the same vicinity as Michelle, Morgan, Ksandra, and another child. Morgan's presence felt weak... "Oh, God, no," Aerandir found himself whispering in his thoughts, but merely pressed onward. Suddenly, however, Morgan's presence seemed to become strengthened... after a moment, Maul's disappeared, apparently having been killed, before Morgan's presence weakened again.

... Had she just... ?

Aerandir ran, kept running, but then slowed to a stop when he entered the part of the hall where they all were gathered. Sure enough, Maul was dead on the floor. Michelle was kneeling, the boy was standing, and Ksandra had just stood, Morgan in her arms. With Maul dead, Aerandir deactivated his weapon, clipping his weapon and striding forward towards Ksandra, towards his daughter, who seemed to be unconscious.*

Is she alright?
*The question came on a father's instinct; he had already been moving to examine her condition. She looked dirty. There was a gash on her forehead; blood had smeared across the upper part of her face, though the flow seemed to have ceased recently. Aerandir reached forward to check her pulse; it was weakened, but the girl was not dying.*
What happened?
*Aerandir reached forward and took Morgan from Ksandra, cradling her in his arms and looking down at her with the utmost of fatherly concern. She didn't appear to be damaged apart from that gash, and it was an easily treatable wound. Briefly, Aerandir had flashbacks of holding her shredded and bleeding form after the Psallo attack, and he visibly almost panicked; he had never wished to experience anything like that ever again. But she was fine, the gash would heal and not leave a scar. And besides, there was a dead Sith on the floor. Granted there was still a war going on outside, but them losing one of their greatest generals was definitely a boon to the Jedi.*

Re: Main Halls

*Ksandra turned, gently depositing Morgan in Aerandir's arms and stepping back, exhaling softly.* "She's all right. Just out cold."

*She rubbed at the back of her neck, still a bit confused.* "Well, I saw Maul launch some kind of Dark-Side energy orb at her, it knocked her off her feet and threw her into the floor, she was unconscious and that's when I started engaging him... And I'm really not sure what happened there at the end. She got back up but there was some kind of a Force projection of a boy, a blond kid with a yellow saber... He, or she, stabbed Maul and killed him when our fight paused."

Re: Main Halls

*Even though Aerandir had already determined for himself that Morgan was just unconscious, hearing extra confirmation from Ksandra served to set him at further ease. He sighed, shifting Morgan into the crook of his left arm, thankful her small size allowed this. He cradled her there, reaching up to brush hairs away from the gash; a few stuck to the skin, but gave after a slight tug.

Aerandir glanced up at Ksandra as she spoke, revealing that Maul had attacked Morgan with some sort of orb of darksided energy that had sent her flying. Aerandir frowned and glared down at the corpse of Maul, wondering why he would do such a risky thing when Morgan was wanted alive. But then what Aerandir heard next intrigued him: Morgan had gotten back up, but was somehow projecting the image of a boy over herself. That was stra—

... "blond kid with a yellow saber"?

Aerandir stared at Ksandra blankly. He heard what she had said next: Morgan, under this projection, had stabbed Maul and killed him. Now Morgan had killed two Sith already... that was impressive, but it had nothing on what he had just heard. A blond boy with a yellow lightsaber... The image Morgan had taken on when she killed Maul... He knew a boy who matched that description perfectly. And that Morgan took on that image now of all times...*

... that's no coincidence.
*His eyes had fallen to the floor in thought, but he looked back at Ksandra significantly.*
The boy whose image you saw was Jamie Daniels. He... was my Padawan several years ago.
*Aerandir looked down at Maul again, and his gaze remained there.*
... Maul killed him. Through the heart.
*Suddenly, Aerandir noted the burn hole in Maul's chest. Directly over where Maul's heart was. Assuming Maul had a heart. Morgan had stabbed him through the heart? How ironic... and poetic justice. Aerandir wore the briefest of smiles, as though the knowledge that at last Jamie's death had been avenged were such a relief. But it faded once more as Aerandir looked back up at Ksandra.*
Why Morgan took on his image is interesting; that she did it at all is even more astounding. I knew she was something special before, but she just gets more and more wonderful than I ever anticipated...
*Aerandir looked down at his daughter in his arms and smiled at her, then leaned down to gently place a kiss on her temple. He needed to get her to a medic, but they also had to fend off the last of the Earth Empire. Morgan would do fine with a quick cleaning of the wound and a bandage around her forehead; when she came to, perhaps Aerandir could find out from her what had happened. Specifically what had inspired her to take on Jamie's image...*

Re: Main Halls

"Now that's a story I'll have to hear later..." *Ksandra's eyebrow climbed even higher at the mention of the ghost-child's relationship to Aerandir, the show of affection to the unconscious girl bringing her to the conclusion of 'parent-child'. Ranger padded up to them at that moment, shoving his head under Ksandra's hand for an ear-scratch, heedless of the blood on his muzzle.*

"Take her to the medics-- and the kids. Maul threw them into the walls, they're probably pretty banged up. There isn't much left to do here with the stormies, I can take over for you till you get back."

*Ksandra tilted her head, inviting a response from Aerandir, smiling crookedly.* "Sidious built me for war, the least I can do is show this fake how well he succeeded."

Re: Main Halls

*She didn't know what what was? The boy, or what Morgan was doing to look like him? Wasn't it just a Force projection... ? Granted, that Morgan had been able to pull that off was almost unbelievable, but still. And Michelle could have answered who it was, but the woman—Ksandra, or "Kas"—continued, saying she had come here just before the battle begin.

"Experience with Sith"? Obviously... the way she took on Maul like that proved it. Michelle watched as Ksandra stood with Morgan and managed to smile at the "shake hands" joke, but suddenly, she felt her brother approaching. She turned to watch him as he arrived, immediately heading straight for Morgan, checking on her and taking her from Ksandra. Michelle breathed a sigh of relief that her brother was here, getting to her feet somewhat weakly.

Ksandra explained what happened, and somehow, like he always did, Aerandir correctly concluded that the boy's image was Jamie's Michelle nodded to confirm the fact, then, as he explained Jamie's fate, a corner of her mouth twitched and she looked away briefly. Then she realized that she hadn't even noted the irony of the situation: Maul had killed Jamie, right through the heart. And Morgan, using Jamie's image, had killed Maul through the heart as well.

Michelle recalled Ilum, about two and a half years ago. Her test was a vision of Jamie, only with distorted colors. There had been a glowing hole in his chest, signifying where he had been stabbed in real life. Michelle didn't think anything of it then, but now that she looked back... the Force sure could be cruel, making her fight Jamie's image. And yet... it made perfect sense... Because of Jamie, Morgan had strove so hard to be good in her training so that she would not meet his same fate. But... she never wanted to think of it as overcoming Jamie...

Michelle took a deep breath and exhaled it through her nostrils, then looked up as Ksandra offered to hold the fort while Aerandir took the kids to the medics, pointing out that they had been thrown into the walls. A twinge of pain in the back of her head caused her to wince slightly and she reached back to rub it, but she tried to stand strong, looking up at her brother with a proud smile.*

It's just a bruise or two. I'll be fine, really.
*For a moment, Michelle considered verbal confirming that the image was indeed Jamie's, but her brother didn't seem to need confirmation. So she only shrugged, lowering her arm and looking past him at Ethan.*
How about you, Ethan? You okay?
*She still couldn't believe that the boy had chosen to stand up with her against Maul instead of fleeing with Morgan. Perhaps it was a good thing; had he continued with Morgan, he could have been hurt by that attack Maul had used on her. Or worse... Michelle didn't want to think about it. Besides, Maul was dead now, they were all alive with a few minor injuries, and once they took care of the rest of the Earth Empire, things would get back to normal...*

Re: Main Halls

*She was alright... Morgie was going to be fine. That was all he needed to hear. Ethan let a sigh of relief, or tried to anyway. To his surprise, just the simple act of sighing stung a bit. He should probably get that checked out as soon as he could.

Suddenly, as the woman explained that her name was Ksandra, Ethan noticed somebody else enter the hallway. He immediately recognized the new figure as Aerandir Calmcacil, the head of the academy. And Morgie's father. Aerandir walked forward, scooping her up in his arms. And then, after listening to Kas explain what had happened, Aerandir had some explaining of his own.

Ethan stood in silence as the man recounted the tale of first Padawan, Jamie. Who had been murdered by Maul. Through the heart. So that was why. Jamie had repayed the favor now, through Morgie. That was incredible... if not a bit creepy.

And now, as Kas offered to take care of things here while Aerandir took them to the hospital, Michelle was addressing him, making sure he was alright. Ethan shook his head.*

I think I cracked a rib.
*He hoped it was only one, at any rate. A cracked rib wasn't too bad though, right? Just set the bone and give it time to heal, right? Time to heal... he sure hoped that didn't take long.*

Re: Main Halls

*A story she would have to hear later? If she so desired, but it wasn't a story Aerandir liked to retell. It had taken lots of mental preparation to simply reveal it to Michelle, same with Morgan. It was never easy to relive those events; it had been hard enough to give the short version, even if Aerandir didn't show it.

Suddenly, Ksandra was suggesting that he take the children to the medics, and that she would handle what was left here. Aerandir's eyebrows raised and he was about to protest, when he realized she was right, and that there really wasn't much left to do here. She could handle a few measly troopers. He wasn't certain where they had sent the Rodian, but he would likely not be much for the winged Jedi anyway.

And then she said it: "This fake." Referring to Sidious, who had "built" Ksandra "for war." Hopefully she meant that in the metaphorical sense, regarding the Galactic Empire, but Aerandir again homed in on the "fake" bit. That these Sith were all fakes had never crossed his mind when they first encountered the Earth Empire; he was still naive, and also more focused on defeating them rather than discover their true identity. But now it came crashing into his mind with more clarity than he had ever anticipated...

Suddenly, Michelle reported her injury: Merely bruised. Certainly, but he was going to take her in for a look anyway; if they were thrown into the walls, he wanted to be certain she didn't have any internal damage. And then the boy spoke—"Ethan" apparently, according to Michelle—expressing concerns that he may have cracked a rib, something Michelle hissed at. Aerandir frowned, then nodded, looking back up at Ksandra.*

Unless they send a Rodian with a lightwhip, they're out of dangerous Sith; I doubt Sidious himself would come to the surface. Just clean up outside, and if I don't return to the battlefield by time it's done, meet me in the medical wing. Have someone show you the way if you need to. And... thanks.
*Aerandir smiled warmly before turning away, directing the children to follow him. He set off, Morgan in his arms, but remaining close and not walking very fast for Ethan's sake. Michelle followed, staying close to Ethan just in case he needed any support. Aerandir didn't look back, heading in the direction of the medical wing.*

Re: Main Halls

"Copy that." *Ksandra nodded, raising a hand to push a few pieces of hair off her face.* "Judging by the noise outside, things are dying down anyway. Probably just a few stray pockets of resistance." *Indeed, the noise of the battle was fading, with only the occasional whine of blaster bolts or a faint scream.* "I'll just track you by Force signature, it's not a big deal."

*She turned and headed in the opposite direction as Aerandir left, tapping her leg in a signal for Ranger to follow her-- the big cat padded along contentedly beside her as Ksandra headed back the way she had come, returning to the battle.*
