Re: Rakatan Ruins

*Vae'goth appears behind Kai and growls in outrage.*
<< Dominate with that creature? It is a feral. It seems to of gone now but I am suspicious of it. I can sense it nearby. It times like this I wish I could develop some venom. Thats not likely to happen. Stay here I want to find this creature. >>
*Vae'goth gets on all fours and makes his way toward the where the creature went. Not only can he sense the beast but he can smell him. Vae'goth stops and gets up into a bipedal position. Vae'goth spreads his wings open and looks straight into the darkness. Vae'goth's vision begins to clear and he begins to be able to see the outlines of rocks and other things. Vae'goth would be next to invisible thanks to his black skin. A look that would scare even the toughest of sentients crosses his face. His razor sharp teeth are bared ready to snare his enemy. Claws are out stretched ready to slash open the flesh. His tail rests behind him but on the end is a barb ready to pierce the hide of the animal. Everything about Goth looks aggressive. No fear can be felt. The darkside seems to envelop him. There is something unnatural about him. Vae'goth suddenly lets out a roar loud enough to reverberate in your ears. It echos through the cavern emphasizing the fear it would bring. Goth feels for the force presence of the beast and speaks to it through the force. He uses the force to contort his voice and to inspire fear, hopelessness, and intimidation.*
<< Surrender foul beast. You can not win. Yield to us and I will let you live. If not then you will have to succumb to the death that I have prepared for you. Can you feel my power? Can you feel how pointless this is? Yes I think you can. Give up. You know its the only way. >>

Re: Rakatan Ruins

Saarai cocked its head to one side, puzzled by this sudden florishing of dominance in the other beast, and the growth of the dark side. Saarai almost lunged forward when he felt something in his mind. A...need...to establish dominance, but it wasn't Saarai's. Was the human using the beast? It must be. Saarai's simple mind tried to make sense of the shifting vision in front of him, obscured by the low light and dark colouring. The beast, no, the human, no, something halfway in between. And dominant.

Something changed in the mind of Saarai. The Dark Side, the need to keep it pure, keep it strong, subsided slowly, replaced by a need to serve, a need to make the strong even stronger. Saarai cast out with its mind, sending images, animalistic thoughts that would suggest agreement, contentment, and service. Creeping forward, Saarai reignited, but the light took on a deep blue, softer cast, revealing Saarai, creeping forward, but with its jaws closed, tails back, and bent close to the ground.

Re: Rakatan Ruins

*My mouth opened in shock when it re-lit, and I thought it was going to attack us...but it didn't. For some reason. Was it...was it Vae'goth? Had he successfully tamed it? I was skeptical.*

    "Vae...did you do that? And...dare I ask...how?"

*Obviously I knew how; as an Alpha at one time, it didn't seem like a very far stretch for him to be able to dominate other beasts; but such a sudden change...this feral creature, even Vae'goth had had doubts about subduing it. So without a struggle, it was so easily appeased? No way. That seemed much too easy.*

"No way. I can't trust it...that thing'll just wait until we're asleep and kill us with a flick of the tail. Whatever it's after, it can't be for our own good."

*I shook my head, and reached for my comlink, Sting still ignited in my left hand, but held idly. As I unclipped the comlink and brought it to my mouth with my right hand, I gasped in surprise and pain. I'd nearly forgotten, my right shoulder had nearly been cut clean off by this guy's tail. I gave Saarai a reproachful glance, then spoke into it.*

"Sorry about that, Hack, recalibrate on this transmission. There must have been some magnetic flux. Mining laser, use it to dig us out now, thanks. Sooner than later, if you don't mind."

*Shockwaves of pain now seared through my right arm as I replaced the comlink, now that the shock of the blow and necessity of battle had worn off. I clenched my teeth and did what I could to ignore it. But the fact-of-the-matter was that I was going to have to have it examined by someone.*

Re: Rakatan Ruins

He got ready to fire the laser again. He then aimed at the Ground beside them. He realized that they were farther underground for him to fire the laser and they were in a planet, not in a Asteroid Field. :: Master, you need to come two levels up, I can't dig any futher than that, not with that Firing Capacity. :: he explained and fired the laser as it slowly dug into the ground.

Re: Rakatan Ruins

*Vae'goth stares at the beast. His eyes are not calm but a raging fire. The irises have gone red and he smells the foul stench of the beast. Something had shifted in Vae'goth, something dark. Perhaps it was the darkside of the force that seemed to dwell in this place. Vae'goth would never be the same again. He lowers his wings and snarls. Turning away he walks straight over to Kai. The petty boy. Vae'goth in his normal mind would be shocked but something had distorted it. The darkside seems to emit from him like a dark light. Perhaps someone who had been in the presence of a Hssiss would understand the feeling.*
<< You go deal with that insignificant beast. I want to get out of this place. >>
*Goth's deamenor had changed. He lowers on to all four limbs and closes his eyes briefly before shooting them open to see what is happening around him. The beast is powerful but Vae'goth knows full well that any beast can be tamed. Perhaps even controlled.*

Re: Rakatan Ruins

Saarai watched the other animal stalk away, and turned its head to Kai. It heaved its bulk up, back to its full height, and walked over to where the boy sat. Saarai lowered its head until it was inches away from the boys face. Its head turned slightly, and the jaws dropped open. The tounge slid out, and licked at Kai's wounded shoulder. Trace amounts of Senflax in the saliva would be enough to numb the shoulder, but little else. Saarai then turned its attention back to the boys face, and reached out with its thoughts. Images flooded into its mind, and had Kai allowed Saarai to connect, his mind. Rakatan, and a vast empire flashed past, brief glimpses into the darkness at the Empires core, then, oblivion. Numerous beings, all blended together, but all reeking of the Dark Side, rose in the mind of the beast, along with a need to serve those figures. Saarai watched as the beings rose in power, guided by him, then came to the forefront, making use of him. Finally, the figures one and all faded, grew weak, and anger rose. Saarai, in his memory/thoughts, lashed out, destroying the weakened figures, before fading into oblivion, only to rise and repeate the cycle. As suddenly as they had begun, the memories faded, and Saarai looked at Kai, the next of the Dark Ones it had chosen to serve

Re: Rakatan Ruins

    "What in Chaos just happened..."
*I muttered quietly. The last turn of events really threw me through a loop.*

*I gave a sidelong glance at Vae'goth as he strutted past me. He'd never used that tone, and his mind felt...quite different, now, from how I was used to feeling. Colder. I wrinkled my brow concernedly.

*Then, that beast came up and licked my shoulder. I resisted the urge to run-- CREEPY, by the way-- and then my entire arm went numb. Well, it made it feel better, at any rate. But then all kinds of images flashed through my mind. Images of things...beings...all of which had the same sort of cold feeling that Vae'goth now exuded. What... And the name of this creature, at last, came to me. Saarai Derriphan - Truth Devourer. And he...seemed to have played an influential role in the rise of all these. Because he remembered them, displayed in all their prominence. And, frightfully enough...he seemed to be the one who disposed of them when their weakness overtook them. Was...was this offered to me? Me, who he had just met?*

*I reached out one hand slowly to touch the beast's-- Saarai's-- head. Power...was that what I sought? And he could give it to me. He'd done so countless times before. So quickly, was our search finished? I could rise to prominence...I could be the one he remembers most, greatest out of all who came before. With Saarai's help, I could become the strongest...a vision of myself, a future in which I had everything at my command, formed in my mind. And a grin spread across my face. It faltered slightly at the thought of growing weak, eventually...but would it not be better to die at Saarai's doing, instead of growing so weak as to be done in by my enemies? And remembered as one who'd not been defeated, once he rose to power! That cruel, greedy grin spread across my face again. Yes...this is what I would become, with Saarai's help...*

*At certain times we become strangely aware of things. This was one such time; for although my mind was focused on this projection of my future, I suddenly noticed Sting in my left hand. And in that mirage of power, I wondered...where had I gone? I am Kai Carn, Epicanthix. Dark Sider, but not given over to the darkness. Masterful droid mechanic, thanks to the Force. One who enjoys funny things, and moreover, droids. Not given to using the Force for the power it yields, but rather to listening for its subtle guidance. All that is who I am...and I felt none of it in Saarai's vision.*

*I withdrew my hand. That was when I muttered the earlier phrase.*

*And I drew back from Saarai. Truth Devourer, what an apt name! I knew, now, what had come over Vae'goth. I understood. The Dark Side is the promise of power as one plunges deeper into it, stripping oneself away in the process. And I, though I linger in the twilight and though power is my goal, am not ready to lose myself in the shameless pursuit thereof. It will not be at the expense of myself that I become stronger. I will find another way! My own way.*

*Time seemed to stand still, right then, as I gazed at Saarai's placid glow in the dark of the cavern, and as Vae'goth moved, already having made his decision. It was though we were frozen, having come to this new understanding between us.*

*But of course my choice will not appease Saarai, will it? No...I could tell from the thoughts he flashed through my mind, he had decided my future for me. So it seemed this will not be the last time I am tempted by the prospect of that future becoming reality.*

      - - -

*We emerged from the Rakatan Ruins through the crated that Hack had dug for us, a few levels up. Silence between the three of us. Saarai followed us this far, so it seemed he'd be haunting me. And Vae'goth merely wanted to leave. I, on the other hand, would instruct Hack to take us to the Jedi Enclave. I need healing, true healing, else my arm'll be really worthless. That trip to the Enclave, though, could right well prove problematic...given Saarai and the 'new' Vae'goth.*

Re: Rakatan Ruins

:: Master, are you alright? Let me tend your injuries! :: he said. The droid exclaimed as he had never been away from any of his Masters for so long before to see them in a bad position, as he dusted him off and Led him to a chair in the Medical Wing.

He then ordered two of the Medical Droids to help him heal Kai as he got some Bacta Dispenser from a Knuzzle from behind his hand.

Re: Rakatan Ruins

*Vae'goth had nothing to say nor wanted to even talk at all. He quietly got back onto the ship and layed down in the cargo area. He doesnt close his eyes though. Something is stirring inside. The darkside seems to of faded but like a stench it lingers. Vae'goth stares blankly at a wall before his blank look turns sour. Almost like anger and rage had come across him for no reason. Goth polls himself into a more comfortable position and decides to sleep. He decided Kai would talk to him if he needed too, but Vae'goth hopes he doesnt.*

Re: Rakatan Ruins

Saarai pulled its heavy body up out of the hole dug by the laser. For such a large beast, it showed remarkable agility and climbing skill, instinctively knowing what could and could not hold its weight. Saarai approached the ship, and immediatly saw that it was too big to fit in the standard ramp. Saarai approached the ship and nosed the cargo bay doors, then cocked its head too look up at the cockpit overhead. saarai reached out, just to remind Kai that it was still there

Re: Rakatan Ruins

*I held up my hands in protest to the medical droids.*
"Hack, I appreciate your concern...but I don't want this fixed up. Not now...you remember that Jedi Enclave that you mentioned earlier when I asked you for a scan of the planet? Yeah...I'm going to use this wound to get them to let me in. I just want to talk to them for a bit, I want to see if they have something of certain importance...it'll be quick. Jedi like to heal people, right? So this..." *I tapped at the shoulder to indicate the deep, numb wound.* "...is so that they admit me without a problem. It doesn't hurt, Saarai numbed it for me. Let's take off, we're all here..."

*I felt Saarai's nudge (and subsequently opened the hold to admit him), and although he'd suddenly become rather withdrawn, Vae'goth was also here, to the best of my sensation. So, having instructed Hack to do so, I sat in the co-pilot chair to watch over it as he would take the controls to fly us to the Enclave. And in the meantime, I took Sting out. Let her walk on the dashboard while we were taking off. Somberly, I contemplated everything that had happened in the past few days.*

*What was going to happen? I haven't a clue, really...all that there is for me is to just go on living as I have always done, and to keep who I am at the center of my actions. I guess that's why I recoiled so much to the prospect that Saarai showed me. It was weighing heavily on my mind. Likewise, Vae'goth's evolution ponderously overtook my thoughts. Was he shown the same thing? Was this his answer? To sacrifice himself to become something more? And what, really, was wrong with that? I just like droids, I like being me...I like to laugh at things. But...I gave Vae'goth the same advice earlier...sometimes when it comes to decisions like this, sacrifices have to be made. He gave up his pack, why couldn't I give up my droids? Why am I reluctant to do it, if it's what needs to be done?*

*Once we took off, it would be merely a minute or two of flight before we reached the Jedi Enclave.*
