Re: The Hanger

Force be damned! *Scalding streams trickled slowly down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms tightly around Morgan's tiny frame. Adelle held her close, empathically connecting and sharing the young girl's pain and sense of loss. She'd never given leaving much thought before. There had never been a reason to think about why she was leaving and who she was leaving behind. It was just a part of her life, an inevitable fact. No one had ever asked her to stay. No one had ever cried. No one had ever tried to stop her before.

Morgan had turned everything on its head. Morgan wanted her to stay. She wanted Adelle to stay. Out of everything she remembered, there was not one instance where someone had pleaded and begged her to stay. Not one moment someone sought to change her mind about leaving. All Adelle could do was hold Morgan tight while the young girl pleaded with her, bargained for just a little more time. She would have said 'yes' in a heartbeat. She wanted to say 'Yes, I'll stay.'

But there was CorSec. The fugitive on Nal Hutta. And Father.

She could not stay. She was not allowed to. Irrational though it may have been, Adelle had never really grown out of that childish fear of her father. That small piece that felt like she was still a headstrong, idealistic teenager arguing with authority and trying to assert her own identity. She figured it stemmed not from her lack of maturing so much as it did from her father never having let go. Why she indulged it, obeyed his every "command", she didn't know. Maybe to keep peaceful relations. Whatever the reason, she was compelled to leave.

Adelle gently pushed Morgan so she could have eye contact and softly wiped away the child's tears. Her own tears she ignored.*

"I have to," *she said quietly, her voice sounding broken and hoarse.* "I have to leave. CorSec needs me to go catch this bad guy. I promise you though, I will come back as soon as I'm done and we can do everything you want to do. I promise I'll be back. And I always keep my promises."

Re: The Hanger

*In that moment, as Kory's own arms wrapped around her, Morgan felt as though they were now sharing a link between them. Kory... was just as sad too? Was that why she had almost left without saying goodbye, because she didn't want to have to deal with this? ... but wouldn't she feel sadder if she left without saying goodbye, or at least felt bad, or something? Morgan was certain she'd have felt terrible if Kory had left without saying anything...

There were other thoughts, ones not easily accessible, but ones Morgan had been made aware of. Grownups always had too many thoughts... She didn't bother attempting to pry, more focused on the fact that her newest best friend was leaving, and Morgan was fruitlessly—but at least admirably—attempting to convince her to stay. She felt herself separated from Kory's shoulder and immediately her glistening emerald eyes met Kory's, waiting for the verdict.

There it was. She "had to." Something about something named "CorSec" needing her to catch "this bad guy." CorSec... that's right, the security forces on Corellia, if she remembered right. Yes, that was right; Kory said that Corellia was her home. And she worked for the security forces there? Wow... Morgan had no idea. But Kory was promising she would return, and declared that she always kept her promises.

Morgan's vision traveled to the ground. That was some small comfort, Morgan supposed, but still, she wished Kory would stay a bit longer. Morgan sniffled, her sobs having ceased a mere moment ago, and she looked back up at Kory with large, moist, gleaming eyes.*

Okay, Kory...
*Another sniffle, as she released the woman and took a step back.*
I can wait...
*She sniffled again, then put on a proud grin, raising her fist up triumphantly.*
You'll get him! I just know it! Just... pretend he's a Felucian boar, or something.
*This act of encouragement, while sincere, was no more than an attempt to put on a false air of collection and tohide her sadness. It worked... for all of about two seconds. Sorrow cracked through her expression briefly, and she lowered her fist. Then she threw herself at Kory again, wrapping her arms around her neck and hugging her tightly.*
I still love you, Kory...
*Yes... Morgan did love Kory. She had been so nice and helpful to her, had comforted her when she was sad, had exchanged stories with her, had protected her from wild boars out in the wilderness. Granted, Kory wasn't the only one who had done those or similar things, but Kory had been the first female adult to do all those things for Morgan. So what did that mean... did Morgan view Kory... like a mother? No, that was silly. And yet... was it the truth?*

Re: The Hanger

*A sad smile crept across her face when Morgan threw a fist into the air and told her to pretend the fugitive was one of the boar-beasts. She could feel the shallow depth of the sentiment, a forced mask of bravado to feign composure. And quicker than she could blink, she felt the mask crack like a glass window struck by a stone, the fragmented shards falling and revealing the sorrow underneath. Morgan's arms flew around her neck again, clamping around her like durasteel to a magnet. Adelle held her close, subconsciously rubbing Morgan's back.*
I still love you, Kory...

*She thought she'd run out of emotion for this farewell but apparently not. Fresh tears sprang involuntarily to her eyes, burning as they spilled over.*

"I love you too, Morgan," *she whispered. And before she could rethink, before she could doubt and second-guess herself and the appropriateness of her action, she pressed a kiss into the side of Morgan's head, holding her tight. She knelt there for a few moments, content to just hold Morgan for a little longer. Then, wordlessly, she rose and climbed back up the ladder to the cockpit of the Silver Kite. Not once did she look back. She never had before. She couldn't now. Looking back now would mean a change of heart. Looking back would mean she'd stay.

The engines primed, she guided the X-wing into the atmosphere of Felucia, into the space beyond, and was gone.*

Re: The Hanger

*Morgan held onto Kory, tears falling from her eyes but otherwise silent. She blinked now and again, smiling briefly when Kory said that she loved Morgan too. And when she kissed the side of her head, Morgan only closed her eyes, before sliding downward enough to turn her head and kiss Kory on the cheek. She then nuzzled against her, wanting to hold onto her forever, even though she knew that she would eventually have to let her go.

And when the moment came, when Kory pulled herself away from Morgan, Morgan desperately, like an infant, kept her arms outstretched, reaching for and grabbing at her, taking a step forward with a pleading, sorrowful expression. Her mouth was open, as though to cry or whine or protest, but it closed with nary a whimper, her arms falling to her sides, and she watched as Kory silently boarded her ship, not looking back.

The repulsors of the ship rushed past her, rippling through her hair and clothing. But she didn't react, other than take a step back. Her eyes were glued to the ship, as it lifted off the hangar floor, angled towards the exit, and began to depart. The rush of air died down and her hair fell against her back once more, slightly ruffled. And Morgan stood there, simply watching as the ship reached the hangar's exit.

And then she ran. Ran with all the speed her little legs could carry her towards the hangar's large entrance, with no regard for the other people or objects in the hangar. She tripped over a toolbox, but kept her footing and continued to run. She didn't stop until she was finally outside, past the hangar's opening, with the open sky above her. She stopped, out of breath, but remaining upright as she breathed deeply, staring up into the sky.

She located Kory's ship. Watched it speed away towards the heavens. Watched as it slowly became a small dot and then vanished from her vision. And with that, Morgan finally backed against the wall of the base behind her, then slid down to the ground, wrapping her arms around her knees, burying her face within them, and began to cry anew.

Morgan had just compared Kory to a mother. A preposterous notion; Felucia was her mother! And yet, Morgan had only spent limited time with the form of the world that could actually hold and carry and speak to her, Morgan being very well aware that such an instance could possibly never happen again. And then there was Kory, who certainly couldn't control the world and take her for a ride on the backs of rippers, but had been there for her physically and emotionally. Morgan couldn't even remember the last time a woman did that for her.

So maybe she was justified in the comparison. Maybe she was justified for sitting there against the wall of the base and crying at Kory's departure. She felt a touch, an almost hesitant one perhaps. One she recognized as the world's. Morgan sobbed again; this was a touch she dearly wished she could feel with her fingers. And yet she couldn't.*

<< Mommy... I wish you could hold me right now... >>
*Morgan didn't even look up, so she was genuinely surprised when, a moment later, she felt soft rain droplets. Morgan looked up to notice that sudden clouds had rolled in, ones that hadn't been there before. And that's when Morgan realized it: Her mother was crying too. And yet, Morgan felt as though she were being spoken to. As though the world had a message for her, her only means of comforting the girl:

~Tell your father to hold me for you, child.~

That didn't help. That wasn't what Morgan wanted! She wanted to scream "But I want you, Mommy!" But she knew that was not possible. Not at this moment. Morgan sobbed, looking up and nodding obediently; she couldn't disobey her mother. She climbed to her feet, then began to reenter the hangar. She stopped long enough to turn at the waist and stare at the cloud-filled sky again, before sighing and entering the base and to seek out her father.*

*The rains continued for but a few moments more, before slowly beginning to clear. They did not continue again, but, for the remainder of that day, the skies over the Jedi Base remained cloudy.*

Re: The Hanger

*In all the holovids Adelle ever saw, the hero always leapt out of the cockpit or exited their vehicle of choice with grace and exuberance, no matter what they'd just been through. Epic space battles, an endless journey through hyperspace, or a series of unfortunate events and misadventures--the hero never lacked poise and egressed with dignity to much adoration. That was why Adelle felt utterly stupid when she half-fell, half-climbed down the ladder to her cockpit. Kriff! Fortunately, she both saved herself and her pride, and found that no one had noticed her klutz-moment.

She stretched out her sore, cramped muscles, cursing hyperspace for all it was worth. As much as the multiple jumps were a pain in her butt--literally--she did not regret her decision. Hutts were notorious for their grudges. She would've hated to have led a bounty hunter to this place. As it was, no one had followed them--yet--and she hadn't felt any pursuers through the Force. Maybe she really could relax as long as she liked here.*

"Resh, see to it that the Kite's refueled and resupplied," *she said wearily.* "No rush though. I don't plan on leaving Felucia anytime soon."

*The droid twittered an affirmative and a quip about her possession of two left feet. Adelle rolled her eyes and walked off, leaving her TwinTail in the capable servos of her astromech. Tired and sore though she was, she couldn't help but feel her spirits lift. After a long few days--or had it been weeks?--she was back on a planet that felt alive, in a place she could rest, and among friendly people. Honestly, she couldn't wait to see Morgan's face again. Something about the child just-- It was inexplicable, really. Indescribable, even. She loved the child more than she thought possible. They had a bond, she knew, stronger than any friendship she'd had before. It was curious but no less delightful for its curiousity.

At some point, she needed to find Aerandir and see if she could request a guest room again. But first things first: she wanted to see Morgan. Her promise took precedence over everything else.*

Re: The Hanger

*Duty and purpose beset Aerandir's stride as he made his way into the hangar. Kory had been kidnapped by a Mandalorian in the wilderness, right in front of Morgan, and she had been understandably distressed about it all. He was about to set this all straight, but he couldn't do it alone; Hutts kept their property well-guarded. That, and he would have to find where this particular Hutt kept his crime ring centered; Hutts liked to... travel abroad.

He had comforted her and left her with Ethan, Michelle, and Annabelle, who could easily cheer her up on their own; between the three of them, Morgan should feel better in no time. But a fellow Jedi was in potential danger, and Mandalorians were not to be messed with lightly. That was why he was headed to Yavin; from what he understood, Kory had come from Yavin, or had been there for a period of time. The Jedi there would be more than willing to help retrieve one of their own.

Aerandir approached his X-wing, patting the side of it as he walked towards the ladder. He ascended it swiftly, gracefully leaping over the edge and into the cockpit. He regarded his astromech droid with a verbal greeting and a destination as he brought the ship's engines online. It felt good to be behind the controls of his old fighter once more, instead of traveling by yacht like he typically did. The ship rose off the hangar floor, angling towards the large entry.

And then it sped away towards the sky.*

Re: The Hanger

*The Palamecia, a YT-2000 light freighter flew into the hangar and slowly came to land in an open space. The engines slowly died and the boarding ramp lowered to the floor. Inside the cockpit, Marcus finished shutting down the rest of the flight systems before standing up and walking to the back, where his companions Leila and Galendr'iel were seated in the passenger area. Their game finished, the Tholothian and the Bothan stood up, though Galen walked away quickly in a huff, his game with Leila not having gone his way. She just smiled as he left.*

=Leila Hawke=
"Sore loser...so, I'm guessing we're good to go?

*Marcus nodded.*"Yeah."*He thought for a moment, getting the feeling that there was something here that needed his attention.*"Hey...go on ahead without me, all right?"

=Leila Hawke=
*Leila frowned a little and tilted her head slightly to the side.*"Everything all right?

*Marcus nodded, unsure of what exactly was tugging at the back of his mind, but sure that it had something to do with him.*"I'm fine. I won't be long."

*Adjusting his cloak around him, Marcus borrowed a speeder and sped off, leaving Leila and Galen with the ship. Shrugging again, the Tholothian headed back onto the ship to grab her own cloak, then headed into the base.

On the ship, Galendr'iel started the usual maintenance tasks required after a flight, figuring his Jedi friends would be back before too long.*

Re: The Hanger

*Aerandir's X-wing sailed into the hangar expertly, quickly locating an empty lot and gliding over it, gently setting down onto the space. Aerandir cut the engines and popped the canopy, leaping out to the ground. He walked quickly, nearly running but not quite, towards the exit and into the base. The sooner he located Bix, the sooner he could learn whatever details he could, the sooner they could find the children and rescue them.*
